Ed Bradley (June 22, 1941 – November 9, 2006)

Edward Rudolph Bradley, Jr. was an American journalist, and he was best known for his award-winning work on the long-running CBS News television magazine 60 Minutes. Bradley grew up in a two parent household, learning the value of hard work from his mother and father. His parents both worked two jobs. Ed went to St. Thomas More High School in Philadelphia, which has since closed. He attended Cheyney State College (now Cheyney University of Pennsylvania) in Cheyney, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1964 with a degree in Education. His first job was teaching sixth grade at the William B. Mann Elementary School in Philadelphia's Wynnefield community. While he was teaching, he moonlighted at the old WDAS studios on Edgley Drive in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, working for free and later, for minimum wage. He programmed music, read news, and covered basketball games.

His introduction to news reporting came during the riots in Philadelphia in the 1960s. In 1967, he landed a full-time job at the CBS-owned New York radio station WCBS. In 1971, he moved to Paris, France and was living off his savings. As he ran out of money, he became a stringer for CBS News. He covered the Paris Peace Talks. In 1972, he was transferred to Saigon, to cover the Vietnam War. He spent time in Phnom Penh covering the war in Cambodia. While covering the war, he was injured by a mortar round. He had shrapnel wounds to his back and arm. In 1974, he moved to Washington, D.C. He covered the Carter campaign in 1976 and then became CBS News' White House correspondent until 1978. From 1978 to 1981, he served as principal correspondent for CBS Reports.
In 1981, he joined the staff of 60 Minutes, when Dan Rather left to replace Walter Cronkite as the anchor of the CBS Evening News. He was the first and the only male correspondent to regularly wear an earring on the show. He had his left ear pierced in 1986 and says he was inspired to do it after receiving encouragement from Liza Minnelli following an interview with the actress.
Over the course of his career, Bradley received the Emmy Award 19 times; a Peabody Award for his African AIDS report, "Death By Denial"; a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award; and the Paul White Award from the Radio and Television News Directors Association He was married to Haiti-born artist Patricia Blanchet and had homes in Woody Creek, Colorado, East Hampton, New York, and New York City, New York.
Bradley was also a jazz music enthusiast and hosted the Peabody Award-winning Jazz at Lincoln Center on National Public Radio for over a decade until just before his death. A big fan of the Neville brothers, Bradley performed on stage with the bunch. He was known as 'the fifth Neville brother' .
"Because when it gets to the point where it's not fun anymore, I've always hoped that I would have the courage to say goodbye and walk away from it." Ed Bradley

The Temptations "From The Beginning"

Around 1958, Otis Williams started a group called Otis Williams and the Siberians featuring Elbridge "Al" Bryant, James "PeeWee" Crawford, Arthur Walton, and Vernard Plain, as their lead singer. Early managers included Bill Williams & Milton Jenkins. Milton had rehearsal space where the met two groups. The Primes, from Birmingham, Alabama , Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, and Kell Osborne; and their sister group, The Primettes who would eventually become The Supremes. "Sometime in early 1959, had a new manager, Johnnie Mae Matthews, and a namechange"The Distants" In 1959, the group heard a recording of a song called "Need It", recorded by the Voice Masters. The most striking thing about the track was the deep growl of the bass singer, Melvin Franklin. It turned out that Melvin and Otis attended the same school and they began hanging out and singing together, developing a tight relationship that would remain until Melvin's death in 1995. The Distants lead singer Vernard quit Richard Street joined the Distants. This lineup "Al Bryant, James Crawford, Melvin Franklin, Richard Street, and Otis Williams" - recorded the song "Come On", which became a local hit. A few weeks later, James "Pee Wee" Crawford dropped out, and was replaced by Albert "Mooch" Harrell. In 1960, the group was playing at the Saint Stephen's community center where Berry Gordy handed Otis a business card. Not long after, "Mooch" Harrell was let go because of personality conflicts, and the group had also decided to let their manager Johnnie Mae go as well. Richard Street began missing rehearsals, so the group was essentially down to a trio (Al, Melvin & Otis) Otis called Berry Gordy and arranged an audition for a couple weeks later,Around this time Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams joined the group and they became The Elgins. The group went to Motown and auditioned for Mickey Stevenson
Berry Gordy loved the old raw songs they had like "Oh, Mother Of Mine", which became
their first record. A few days before signing, they discovered that another group was calling themselves The Elgins and they would change their names to The Temptations "The group worked hard, and Berry produced most of their sessions, . Most leads on these early releases were split between Eddie, with his sweet first tenor and falsetto, ("Paradise") and Paul, with his deeper baritone ("I'll Love You Till I Die"). In early 1963 they cut their sixth single, "I Want A Love I Can See", with Paul Williams on lead. This was a Smokey Robinson song and production. Smokey, would be one of the two writer-producers who would create their greatest hits The other would beNorman Whitfield. On the road, Drinking and drug use was becoming a problem for Al Bryant so the group began to look for replacements . One night, while the group was winding up a show, DavidRuffin came out of the audience and leapt onto the stage. The minute Ruffin got up and did his soon to be legendary throwing the microphone into the air, catching it, and doing full splits, that was it! The audience went wild! However fighting between Al and Paul, ended with Al breaking a beer bottle on Paul's face, sending him to the hospital for stitches. After that, the situation only got worse and the Fox Theaters' annual Christmas show in 1963 was Al's last peformance with The Temptations. More To Come ...

Where's Wesley?

U.S Marshall Star Wesley Snipes is a now a real fugitive.Police are looking for him because Wesley was indicted of 8 counts of tax fraud. He's wanted in Florida for filing fraudulent tax returns for 1996 and 1997 and claiming refunds on taxes already paid that totaled around 12 mil.He also failed to file returns from 1999-2004, his accountants were apparently in on the deal getting a 20% kickback. Is Wesley a victim of Bad Tax Advisers?. Just seems like The Isley "situation" to me, IRS again targeting prominent black celebrities. Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Redd Foxx, Sammy Davis, Jr. ,Isaac Hayes the list goes on and on .Think Wesley's getting the shaft or should Ron Isley move over? Tell me what's on your mind........
